philosophy

“Music is language, character acting, and the impression of the inner awareness condition as well as that of the outside world. While interpreting a song, I am constantly looking for the world behind the music: I am looking for a coherent demonstration of the transparency of all details. Wether in serious or entertaining pieces, the message lies within. The deep sentiments of a Mahler Symphony is as much part of our lives as the vivid performance of Johann Strauß or the musical expression of a rock band. Only music which doesn’t have anything to say is dead. One can find my musical ideals in a time in which is was natural to be composer, pianist and conductor all at once. Musicians such as Franz Liszt, Sergei Rachmaninoff and Leonard Bernstein arouse my admiration. You can feel how all different aspects fertilize each other, so you have the feeling of coming a bit closer to the secret of this creation. My aim is to draw people’s attention to the diversity of the music. I would like to inspire their thoughts for the sound of an orchestra, one single instrument or the human voice and to pass on to them the experiences and perceptions which the music has to offer.” Heinz Walter Florin
