biography

Heinz Walter Florin was born into a family of musicians in Bonn, Germany. His ability and enthusiasm for music lead him to the Robert Schumann Conservatory of Music in Düsseldorf, where he started his course of studies in piano. He then took master classes and was trained as master of piano by important piano educationists V. Margulist (Freiburg, Germany) and V. Merzhanov (Moskow, Russia). Chamber music, orchestra productions many of which feature internationally renowned artists from all over the world, piano-and Lieder evenings belong to his scope of duties as a pianist. Many CD, radio and television productions show his variety as a musician. At the same time his great passion for the orchestral sound led him to conducting. He graduated from the Conservatory of Maastricht, Netherlands, with a diploma in orchestral conducting. During his studies he gained some theatrical experiences while accompaning singers and was hired as assistant to the choirmaster. Furthermore he continued taking master classes in this field (e.g. Jorma Panula). During that time he was responsible for great opera productions for the West Deutscher Rundfunk which have received high claim by many record reviewers. In the years that followed he was conducting concerts, opera galas, open air events, radio – and television productions. Orchetras involved were the NDR Radio Philharmonie Hannover, the Beijing Symphony Orchestra, the Bonner Beethovenorchester, the WDR Rundfunkorchester, the Symphony Orchestra Wuppertal and many more established orchestras, choirs and soloists. Since 2005 he has been conducting the Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie as associate conductor and has been principal cunductor of the Elbland Festspiele in Brandenburg since 2007. Besides, Mr. Florin is working as arranger and composer. In 2003, his Cologne Symphony premiered at the Philharmonie Cologne and he arranges for larger film productions as well as musical gala events. Some of his credits as orchestral leader and conductor include the award-winning German television productions Das Wunder von Lengende (Sat 1) and Der Untergang der Pamir (ARD).
